"Green" Initiatives
Canisius recently became a part of the Buffalo CarShare Initiative. Students-and anyone else who is part of the campus community-can rent an environmentally friendly vehicle to use. The cost is between $5 and $9 per hour of use, gas, and insurance included. A minivan and a pickup truck are also available, in addition to a regular car.
Favorite Things To Do
There are plenty of events sponsored by clubs and organizations to keep students entertained year-round. But on their own, students enjoy hanging out in Palisano where there are pool tables, pingpong tables, a lounge area, and large screen and sound system. In nice weather, students spend time in the quad. Both on- and off-campus housing are popular locations for socializing.
Clubs and Organizations on Campus
Canisius is very encouraging about new student clubs; hence, there are tons of clubs and organizations on campus. As the neat little brochure from the Office of Programming and Leadership Development (CPLD) says, "your toughest decision will be what to do first!" Truly, it is the "toughest decision." There are 28 academic organizations, nine communication clubs, 13 cultural clubs, 16 honor societies, 12 performing arts groups, 25 recreational clubs (not counting individual intramural sports), and 26 social- or service-related clubs. The most active organizations are Unity, SIFE (Students of Free Enterprise), C-Block, The Griffin (school newspaper), Afro-American Society, Little Theatre, Project Conservation, Student Programming Board (SPB), intramural sports, Undergraduate Student Association (USA), and the Residence Hall Association (RHA).
