If there's one thing Buffalo can definitely be proud of, it's food. Although by being the birthplace of the chicken wing—much of that food is not Weight Watchers material. That's not to say if you're a health-conscious eater you won't find acceptable meals—quite the contrary. You just need to be a little more selective, or perhaps just say "Hold the cheese, please." Buffalo has historically been home to many immigrant communities, most notably Italian, Polish, Irish, German, Jewish, Greek, Indian, Puerto Rican, and more recently Somali, Yemeni, and Burmese families. There are also many people from other Asian, African, and Latino backgrounds. If you know where to look, you'll find mom-and-pop establishments that cater to the tastes of each of these groups and to nonmembers with adventurous palates.
The city's multiethnic nature has led to a merry melting pot of delectable dishes in numerous gems of restaurants and bars, many of which are a very short distance away from Canisius. Elmwood Avenue, in particular—only a mile or so away from campus—is full of small eateries, cafés, and shops.
