- Paul 'Doc' Evans (Class of 1929) – accomplished jazz trumpeter considered one of the best performers and composers of Dixieland music, toured country with his 70-member big band, recorded with Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, Joe Bushkin, and more.
- Thorstein Veblen (Class of 1880) – economist who is most famous for his Theory of Conspicuous Consumption, a scathing critic of capitalism, founded the school of American Institutionalism that survives to this day
