Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Given Carleton’s high percent retention rate, it’s pretty evident that Carls are satisfied with their school. Most people are surprised at how accepting other students at Carleton are and how easy it is to make friends, no matter who you are. As long as you’re accepting and understanding, you’ll get along just fine. The main reason why people usually end up choosing Carleton is its academics, but the main reason they stay is because of the people. Unlike at larger schools, you will not get lost at Carleton unless you make a conscious effort to do so. Sure, the academics are stressful, but the friendships and life experience you’ll gain at Carleton is invaluable.

There’s the old cliché that college is the best four years of anyone’s life. What makes Carleton unique is that the four years you spend here may be the most challenging and stressful years of your life, but the result will make you a complete, well-rounded, and prepared individual who’s ready to go out and face the real world. Granted, you’ll remember most of your time at Carleton fondly, but you’ll never be able to truthfully say that those four consecutive all-nighters you pulled junior year were part of the best time of your life. After graduation, you’ll thank Carleton for giving you the experience of completely working your tail off because just about any job you get afterwards will feel like a walk in the park (on a warm day, of course).

Amazing Experience So Far

I'm just finishing my first term at Carleton and I have loved everything about it. The classes are amazing, the professors are incredibly helpful and engaged, the student body is so welcoming and friendly, and the campus is gorgeous. I honestly can't think of much I would change.

An Awesome Place

I have had a great time at Carleton, though this is only my second year. It's tough academically, but when you sign up for a place like this, that is what you should be expecting. There is a lot of fun to be had on the weekend but you do need to plan out time for both social and academic things. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else, this is the college that I knew I belonged to, the community is close and the classes are fascinating.

Pretty Darn Great.

Carleton is a fantastic place to spend four years. Like any bureaucracy, there are flaws and inefficiencies, and some policies are arguably unjust. But Carleton is a responsive institution, and will try to address and resolve any problems you have. Academics are intense, hours in the libe are long, but generally the love of learning here is palpable. We're quirky and nerdy, and this is our place, and we love it. It's an incredible privilege to spend four years with such amazing students and professors at such an idealistic institution.
