As a graduate student and not at the heart of the Oakland campus and working two jobs, the night life scene with the younger students, I will not be out with them. I will be working nights/weekends.
College Sophomore 2013-11-23T20:12:26Z
I have not had to use them yet
College Sophomore 2013-11-23T20:11:45Z
The school is helping me, I fear that the payments will be high afterwards and I really do need scholarships. I will be working as much OT as I can and two jobs for as long as I can until clinicals start with my program to help alleviate these burdens. I love this school and program, but not the cost of any graduate school.

I do not eat on campus
College Sophomore 2013-11-23T20:09:12Z
I'm not famillar with this at my area, but from previous transportation, it was bad.
College Sophomore 2013-11-23T20:08:26Z
The school is very adamant about academics and policies. The students seem to understand this and are there for a reason. Sure there are parties, but as you mature, this tapers.

Health & Safety:
The Oakland campus worries me some, but I have no fears where I am at the Greensburg site. It' beautiful there.

The library is very nice and where I study and have classes is very nice
College Sophomore 2013-11-23T20:06:06Z

Guys & Girls:
Carlow started out as an all female school run mostly by nuns. In recent years it has opened its' doors to male students as well. I believe in diversity and equal opportunity. I enjoy the many different types of students that you see on campus. While still predominantly female there are a number of males who are attending, they have even opened up a dorm for the gentleman and now have males living on campus. There is a large number of non traditional students like me who attend classes at night but traditional students attend some night classes too. I whole heartedly have been enjoying my tenure at Carlow. I have met some amazing people that I truly can consider friends and will always keep in touch with. I have formed some meaningful friendships while at Carlow.

My program is Sociology. I chose to study Sociology because I would like to start a non-profit and I have an Associates' degree in Business Management. It was my thought process that I needed to learn the more social aspect of business in an effort to become relatable to my target population. Carlow has a plethora of degree programs that one can choose from making it a very diverse place to study. I have enjoyed my time at Carlow because the classes are fairly small and they offer classes at night that fit perfectly into my schedule. I think that most of the professors understand the non traditional student and I feel that they give assignments and homework with the thought in mind that the nontraditional student has a life ( employment, children etc.) outside of class, yet still allowing the opportunity to effectively learn and apply the things learned. I feel it is an even mix of exactly what I thought it would be when I decided to return to school.

The most unique thing about Carlow is that Carlow provides non-traditional students the opportunity to study abroad. Students are able to study in Greece, Italy, Ireland and a number of other countries. I think that it is a wonderful opportunity for non-traditional students to have a global experience.
In addition my field of study is Sociology and my dream is to open a non-profit organization. Carlow is the only school in the Pittsburgh area that offers a grant writing class. Grant writing is essential to those in the non-profit sector being that the majority of funding comes from grant monies. The grant writing class allows students the opportunity to participate in an actual grant writing process with an organization in the Pittsburgh area. At the completion of the class students will have actively participated in the writing of an actual grant for an organization that truly needs funding. It allows students the ultimate feeling of accomplishment. One has gained new skills as well as become a part of the process of obtaining funding for a worthwhile organization. It is like real hands on experience. I would recommend this class to anyone just for the sheer feeling of helping someone do something worthwhile for their community.

I am not very familiar with the drug scene at all at Carlow. To me, it is non existent. I am a non-traditional student who lives off campus so I don't do very much fraternizing with the students who live on campus.

A majority of the students that attend Carlow University commute. Whether you walk, bike, carpool, or use public transportation, commuter students find it very easy to travel back and forth for classes. A four year member of the soccer team, I have come to realize that this team is not a high priority to the athletic director. Not only was he unaware that our team went undefeated in our conference (KIAC) last season, he also has lacked to find us a consistent practice field in the past. Currently, as we are in season, we have no practice field and are on a day-by-day basis as to whether or not we can find a field and practice outdoors. It's hectic, unorganized and unprofessional. For those that wish to attend Carlow University and play other sports, be my guest. They seem to be more on the AD's radar than soccer, despite our success and improvement over four years. If you wish to play soccer at Carlow, be aware of the external shenanigans you will have to endure.

I think if you take advantage of the opportunities to network and get experience that the university provides through internship opportunities etc. you will do well in your career field with whatever major you decide to pursue. If you do not work hard though, your degree probably won't get you very far.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
