College Prowler Take

You need to look pretty hard to find drug activity on campus. It always seems like students know of someone who’s really into drugs, but no students themselves ever admit to descending into drug use. There is some noticeable use of softer drugs, however. Alcohol seems to be the drug of choice for most students and just about everyone knows that guy who sits in his room and smokes pot all day. Non-users feel very little pressure to indulge in drugs.

CMU has less drug use than your average high school. It’s true that students sometimes freak out before a test and begin to fiend for caffeine. There are also rumors of Ritalin use, but like most drug use on campus, no one ever really admits to seeing it happen. Drugs are not a dominant force in CMU culture, even though it isn’t that hard to obtain them.

I feel like a lot of people at least smoke weed, especially in the fraternities and with people in the College of Fine Arts. However, it is not all that publicized.

CMU students do not have the time or extra brain cells to sacrifice to drugs. Some drinking and smoking goes on but nothing too serious.

Most drugs are available for those who search for it, but people who aren't interested can easily go through CMU never seeing any. A lot of people smoke pot, and a good amount of people do harder drugs as well.

I think drug scene is somewhat big here, although it is probably less than other schools. I think no matter where you go to college, there will be a drug scene. A lot of my friends smoke pot usually every weekend. I have some friends who will smoke everyday. If you don't want to be involved in the drug scene, you easily do not have to be. I am not involved in it, and I am never pressured to be.
