Advice on Finding a Job/Internship There are two really great resources to utilize to find a job or internship in a certain field. As with any other school, it's important to visit the Career and Professional Development Center as much as possible. Many companies schedule interviews through it, and staff members will review resumes, cover letters, and interview tips before the real thing. Each school also has a specific adviser in the career center, so students can be sure they are getting the right kind of advice. Secondly, it is important to utilize the academic advisers within each specific major, too. Most departments have a list to email students news, jobs, and internships that are sent to them.
Did You Know?
  • More than 200 companies come to CMU in the fall for the Technical Opportunities Conference, where students have two days to speak to recruiters in computer science, engineering, information systems, and the sciences. This event is planned by the CMU chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, and is hosted by the engineering college, the Carnegie Institute of Technology.
  • For students in all majors who are looking for jobs in a creative industry, the Creative Arts Opportunity Conference is held later in the spring semester.
  • Almost every department and office on campus utilizes student workers.
  • The Employment Opportunities Conference is held each spring for all students in all majors. More than 150 hiring organizations attend each year to scope out new full-time employees and summer interns.
  • Each fall, students in the Tepper School of Business plan the Business Opportunities Conference for students looking for employment in business opportunities. Some of these positions include consulting, finance, and banking.
