Facts

Interviews & Information Sessions

There are two different types of information sessions, one of which is for high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, which is a general overview of the application process and the University. The other one is specific to high school seniors or students who will be applying in the coming months, and is more specific to the programs, financial aid, campus life, and admission. Preview information sessions are given in the spring, usually twice a day. Senior information sessions are held during the late summer and early fall. While seniors are on campus for an information session, interviews with admissions officers are also available between the months of May and November.

Campus Tours

Tours are given by Andrew Ambassadors, who are current undergraduate students that are passionate about Carnegie Mellon. Interested students can sign up for tours at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., or 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The only exceptions are during University holidays, breaks, and finals. For those who want to see a residence hall, a tour of Stever Hall is available at 1 p.m. on the days tours are offered, and it leads directly into the 1:30 p.m. campus tour.

Overnight Visits

Carnegie Mellon offers Sleeping Bag Weekends for prospective and admitted students during the fall and spring semesters. A student who wishes to participate in a regular Sleeping Bag Weekend arrives on a Sunday, stays in an undergraduate dorm, and then has the opportunity to attend classes before departing Monday. Minority students can sign up for the Celebration of Diversity, which begins a day earlier than the usual Sleeping Bag Weekend. Students arrive on a Saturday afternoon and spends a couple days with their undergraduate host before departing on Monday.

Prospective Weekend

Sleeping Bag Weekend Wanna live the life of a CMU student for a day and a half? Try visiting CMU during a Sleeping Bag Weekend. Expect to receive an invitation from CMU if you are on their mailing list. If you are not on their mailing list, call (412) 268-2082 or e-mail cmsbw@andrew.cmu.edu. During Sleeping Bag Weekend, you’ll be able to meet other CMU students, faculty, deans, and admissions officers, so bring this book with you and grill everyone you can with questions! Important Tip! Remember, Sleeping Bag Weekend might be the greatest time of your life, but even one and a half days at CMU might not give you an accurate portrayal of campus.

Did You Know?
  • Rising juniors and seniors who are really interested in experiencing CMU can attend a Pre-College Program for six weeks during the summer. Students can participate in architecture, art & design, drama, music, or the Game Academy, which explores the skills needed in the video game industry.
  • Admission officers travel to towns and cities across the country to conduct information sessions and interviews for students who can't make it out to Pittsburgh. Prospective students can sign up for notifications for these traveling information sessions on the CMU admission website.
