- Polykarp Kusch (Class of '31) – shared the 1955 Nobel Prize in Physics for research on electron magnetic strength that resulted in major modifications to atomic theory
- Hal Lebovitz (Class of '38) – veteran baseball writer
- Donald A. Glaser (Class of '46) – received the 1960 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing the Bubble Chamber, a device that allows scientists to photograph trails left by high-speed atoms traveling through super-heated liquids
- Frank Rudy (Class of '50) – inventor of the Nike Air-Sole, the unique cushioning devices built into Nike's ubiquitous athletic shoes
- Paul Berg (Class of '52) – received the 1980 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for pioneering genetic engineering research
