Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Case certainly feels like the technology center of the solar system, especially when using the internet and wireless technology. Fiber optic gigabit Ethernet, it just rolls right off the tongue. Linux, Mac, PC, homemade, whatever your pick, there is a programming maharishi eager to help you. Case will be entirely wireless by the start of the school year—that means everyone will be able to use their desktop or laptop on the toilet or at the library. Being the kind of place that Case is, students tend to covet hardware and are eager to take advantage of the technological opportunities and each have their own computer. If you don’t have a computer or don’t want to bring yours, the computer labs are numerous and each, superb and printing and certain software is free to all students. The hours and availability of these labs are not so convenient. In addition to the recommendation of students, the school urges that students bring computers.

Case ranks among the most wired campuses in the nation. Although controversial, most students take pride in the super-fast network and extensive file-sharing through Case’s file sharing server which allows students to share files of all types; the speed of transfer is usually only as slow as your hand can copy and paste. Other students shun the file-sharing system in support of ‘real media,’ and the campus film society that has taken major patronage losses and has lost the privilege from many companies to screen un-released films on campus due to the leakage factor.

Easier to Work Off Campus

The computers in my particular library are limited. Most people bring their own computers and use that to get work done. It is easier to save information that way also. The speed is good which is nice because internet is absolutely necessary for classes. However, the worst part about the school is the printing. You will have to complete many, many, many papers and each single piece of paper will cost you 10 cents. If you are not broke already from life and tuition, this will help empty your pockets!

During popular homework times, for example around 10PM, the wifi usually slows down a lot but it still works. Each dorm room also comes with an ethernet cord which makes it easy to get online. The computers around campus are reliable but there aren't many. The printers are often jammed or broken down and so it would be very helpful to have a personal printer
