Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With students from across the nation and around the globe, it is widely agreed that Case is a very diverse campus ethnically and religiously. Some point out that there are too few African Americans and that it is a rather conservative campus. Many also point out that the science majors remain in too much in the majority. The administration makes a concerted effort to promote cultural diversity, and international-themed activities, such as the Indian Student Association show and La Alianza consistently rank among the most popular events on campus.

Case diversity statistics don’t seem to reflect the extremely diverse atmosphere on campus, but it’s not rare to hear three different languages just walking to class. There’s no denying the benefits of a diverse student body that indelibly enriches the campus. Case students and faculty value diversity, the continued increase in diversity at Case confirms that.

Beware the Homophobes

The cultural diversity at Case is pretty reasonable. The acceptance of sexual orientations is good, too. Case has a very nice LGBT center.

Accepting

Case is great with being accepting of most anyone. There is a strong diversity of international students and a huge push to be supportive of LGBT students. We have very few African-American students which is surprising given how diverse in just about every other way Case is. Politically I call it apathetically left, as the dominant sentiment is apathy but there are more active left leaning groups than right leaning even though the Case Republicans is a relatively healthy organization

Nothing Pretty Here

Caucasian females are THE minority. Attractive females are hard to come by, social awkwardness is contagious. No one goes to Case for the girls, night-life, college-experience. Students go to Case because they want the best education for the degree they want.

Facts

Gay Pride

The campus is fairly accepting of the GBLTQ community. Spectrum, a student group designed to support gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students, works to educate the campus on sexuality issues by increasing diversity awareness. Spectrum-sponsored events such as the Lavender Ball have been successful, as well as other student-planned informational events throughout the school-year.

Political Activity

There are a fairly balanced number of conservatives and liberals on this campus, though most students tend to behave conservatively about open activism regarding any issue. Though far less ubiquitous than on the campuses of similar prestigious universities, progressive and liberal activism is the most prevalent presence on campus, though most students generally remain apathetic.

Economic Status

Case students come from a variety of economic backgrounds. Case’s reputation as top learning institution combined with the generous financial aid results in a relatively economically diverse student body. The average family income of need-based aid recipients was $79,477 and over 90 percent of freshmen from last year’s entering class received aid with an average award of $17,607, with over 40 merit scholarships awarded.

Most Common Religions

There are many Christian groups on campus. Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism are also visible.

Minority Clubs on Campus

Case’s international student population produces some of the most flavorful events of the year. Here a sample of the international and ethnic groups on campus: African American Society, Die Deutsche Gesellschaft (German Club), Chinese Student and Scholars Association (CSSA), Egyptian Students Association, Korean Student Association, La Alianza, Le Quartier Français, Malaysian Student Association, Middle Eastern Cultural Association, Persian Club, Thai Students Association, Pakistani Student Association, Undergraduate Indian Student Association (UISA), Japan Connection.
