Aside from the alcohol present at many parties, there is virtually no drug “scene.” Although there are pockets of students who dabble in illegal substances, marijuana is basically the extent of illicit substance use on campus. Most reprimanding is with regard to alcohol, but there is virtually never any need for the reprimanding of other substances for lack of their presence. With drugs and alcohol, students are fairly responsible and those motivated enough to obtain substances and go to the trouble of maintaining secrecy, usually do so in a discreet and fairly responsible fashion.

As with most things in life, if you really want them, you’ll find a way. The academic rigor in combination with its predominant conservativism and general geekiness makes for an environment where there is little place for substances other than the occasional keg or 12-pack. By and large, there is no pressure on campus, and illegal substances pose no threat.

We’re a wet campus, which is... We’re a wet campus, which is awesome. I think banning drinking encourages more binge drinking and just stupid behavior. Kids do drugs, yes, but mostly pot. I’ve known kids to deal prescription drugs like Adderall to help them study. Otherwise, everyone’s totally cool. The University has the really great stance of: here are the facts, if you chose to do drugs and drink and you screw up, you’re an adult and can deal with the consequences. 12345 Drug Scene Report

If you want to smoke pot on... If you want to smoke pot on campus, it can be done (one of the frats is a bit notorious for being well-connected). As long as you’ve got a towel and don’t mind opening the window to the bitter Cleveland cold, you can smoke in your dorm room. 12345 Drug Scene Report
