College Prowler Take
Greek life at Case is a very good balance of philanthropy and partying. Frat parties offer a good way to unwind and socialize on the weekends. Greek life definitely doesn’t dominate the social scene, only compliments it. Since there isn’t a large social scene beyond student organizations and clubs, Greek life offers a necessary outlet for those seeking social stimulation.
The Greek system is the important cohesive matter that keeps Case’s frail social scene in tact. Greek parties are open to Greeks and non-Greeks and the party environment is rarely exclusive. The Greek social scene for some is a refreshing alternative to the residence life social scene and the academic social scene (I think I just made that one up). Most definitely, the Greek scene is not dominating. Social interaction is easy to find if you’re looking for it and although the Greek scene is very conducive, it doesn’t have to take place at a frat party.

Being Greek I will tell you that Greek life definitely does not dominate the scene. I was completely against joining a sorority when I first came to Case but I think it is one of the best things I did because there are so few girls at Case and now I have not only a great friendship with a ton of the girls, but a lasting bond with them. |

Greek life isn’t dominating by any means. Most of the big parties are at fraternities, but many of those are open to all. There isn’t a big fraternity rivalry or exclusiveness on campus, minus a few that most people just don’t like. |

It depends on what you’re into. If you are a social butterfly, you’ll get into the Geek scene. If you’re more like I am, I’ve got large number of people that I hang out with, half Geek, half non-Greek. I went to Case wanting to join a fraternity, but I thought I should find out how hard classes were going to be on me. I didn’t join a frat. |

Most Greek parties are open, so you don’t have to join to enjoy their social scene. They do dominate your life until you find your own groups, then you can take them or leave them. |

There’s plenty to do if you’re not Greek, but I recommend Greek life. I was one of those people who said I would never join a sorority, but the Greek system at Case is different from most. It is focused more on philanthropy and programming than partying. The parties still happen, and some have a few hundred people and are a lot of fun. The greatest benefit to Greek life is that you meet people you never would have met otherwise. It also forms a great support system that you can rely on because you tend to from closer friendships with people when you have a common interest and work together on a lot of projects.’ |
