Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sad but true, Case males out-number females nearly two-to-one. In the face of this harsh reality, a particular mentality proliferates among the male population, with complaints for lack of dates and hot girls, though some report that the situation is improving as the gene pool continues to expand and new harvests of hotties penetrate the Case nerd barrier. For females, unless your tolerance for conventional nerdiness is nil, the options are endless.

You’ll notice that in none of the above quotes are there comments about the promiscuity of either sex. The numerous Case students that answered my questions made no reference to the number of Case women that appear in Girls Gone Wild. To the woe of male readers, this is not due to censorship on anyone’s part. Alas, this is not to say that Case students experience no sexual urges, angst or frustration. Since individuals at Case probably experience an academic intensity many times greater than the individuals featured on Girls Gone Wild, it might follow that the sexual expression resulting from this is many times greater than any Girls Gone Wild sequel imaginable. Who knows?

Free Spirits Who Are Very Smart

Students at CWRU march to their own drummers. I love how they are cool, hip and maybe a little nerdy and very, very smart.

It Is an Engineering School...

The male:female ratio is pretty lopsided in some areas of the school. Overall, the student body is pretty nerdy, but there are exceptions, mainly in the liberal arts college (but who goes to Case for that?)

Diverse and Interesting

There are people of almost every ethnicity and religious background at Case, which I found very nice. There is definitely a fair amount of really attractive guys, but it's also extremely nice that many of the guys on campus aren't just frat brothers obsessed with partying and booze. There are a lot of intelligent and attractive guys. But I agree that there definitely are those really nerdy types, but the sheer amount of guys here make up for it. The girls are overall also attractive, and according to many of my male friends, there are a lot of "hot Asian chicks."

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

Though Case students tend to be very independent, students are generally very friendly and helpful. Students interact well, but just not a whole lot. Some students complain of the lack of interaction between majors, others gripe about the pervasive "nerdiness" and social awkwardness of students here. As far as generalizations go, the social scene here could be described as balanced; for every introvert you can find a social butterfly.

Hookups or Relationships?

According to most students, the dating ‘scene' is non-existent due to the lack of necessary pre-existing vigorous social scene. If it could be called a "scene," ones of the dating types do exist among student organizations, groups, cliques, and Greek organizations. Regardless, many, many students at Case date, just not necessarily in any specific fashion or hierarchy as such terms as "scene" imply.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

As geeky as it sounds, the easiest way to meet guys and girls is in the dorms, studying, in class, or at extracurricular activities. Students at this school are very study-oriented, so it makes sense that your chances are greatest in environments conducive to those activities. If you're over 21, bars and clubs are great places to meet non-Case students. Frat parties and off-campus parties tend to cater to those who prefer romancing and having fun without flashcards and text books.

Dress Code

None. There is no particular description for the way students here dress. Although, there are number of students that can be seen wearing those black shirts with dramatic pictures of wolves or eagles on them and a great number of students that sport the '80s black-jeans-worn-high-on-the-waist-exposing-the-ankles look most (often accompanying the wolf/eagle shirts). Most Case students are familiar with the biological process of cloning, but attempt to differentiate themselves in and outside the lab. Nonetheless, a good number of students bear the ubiquitous names, A+F, American Eagle, and Aeropostale being the easiest to spot. Some students attempt to look respectable and many go all out every day, but most, too preoccupied with school and other matters, roll out of bed, glance in the mirror and head to class.
