Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Case is an urban campus, so crime is a lingering concern, but not a constant threat. Students recommend traveling in groups at night and avoiding shady areas. Students feel little to no concern about their safety at night but recommend traveling in groups. Many students use the Greenie buses at night or the campus security escort service. During the day, students are not concerned for their safety on campus, but students are aware that the area east of campus can be dangerous at any time if traveling alone or on foot.

Every city has its ‘bad’ areas and every once in a while a campus resident or student is reminded that East Cleveland needs some economic reinvestment. Campus safety abound, there are always a handful of personal robberies and thefts about which all students receive news promptly via email. Common sense and listening to the advice of students with experience in navigating areas around campus are best bets to remain cautious but still be able to venture outside University Circle. Numerous yellow call boxes dot the campus which can connect you with security or any Case-affiliated number. Case has three levels of protection: Cleveland Police, University Circle Police, Campus Security. Campus Security provides, well, security, but also a ride at any time of the night from and to any place on campus. The “Greenies,” are the campus bus services, transporting students along a route that includes Coventry Village, running until 12:30 a.m. on weekdays and 2:45 a.m. on weekends and are staffed by campus security personnel in the evenings.

High Crime

Extreme poor planning by Police in security on campus from off campus people committing crimes. Often these criminals come on campus and rob students by force.

It's a Safe Campus

Although the campus is in proximity to East Cleveland, the campus is overall safe. The campus police do a good job.If any incident occurs, campus police will notify everyone through email. I feel that it's a realistic way of approaching security around campus. Incidents have happened before but things like safe-ride, walking escorts and campus police patrols help keep them in check.

Good, During the Day

Case is surrounded by ghetto on 2 sides, so the crime can tend to leak into campus. There's a mugging at night probably once every other week. Campus police are usually good about responding, but it can be hard for them to catch a suspect when the description matches 25% Cleveland's population. I know someone who had their car stolen when it was parked on the street.

The last year I was there was worse than average. There was a carjacking during the summer and 2 bank robberies (at the same bank).

There are plenty of options for getting around at night if you don't feel safe walking though.
