Success and Fun

It is hard for me to give a decent review on this topic because I have completely different interests being that I am in graduate school. However, I know that greek life and sports are popular at CWRU. I also know that students who partake in clubs and organizations and the nightlife are also very serious about their school work. So, if you want to get the most out of your education and nightlife, this may be the place for you!

Facts

Traditions
  • The April Fools Edition of the Observer: The Observer prints a spoof-filled issue in the first week of April. This is often an amusing way for students to be sarcastic and brutally honest through satirical cartoons, articles, editorials and the issue’s chosen theme.
  • The Hudson Relays: Held annually since 1910, the event commemorates the 1883 move of Western Reserve College from Hudson to University Circle. Relay teams run five-mile laps around campus and the surrounding community, ending at the Adelbert Rocks, which list winners of past races.
  • The Sci-Fi Marathon: The Science Fiction Marathon comprises over 36 hours of back-to-back science fiction movies, trailers, and surprises that takes place in the 580-seat Strosacker Auditorium, home of the Case Film Society. The event was started in 1976 and is popular with Case students and the Cleveland community, as well as people from out of state and even from other countries. In Miriam Carey’s 365 Ways to Meet People in Cleveland, Case’s Science Fiction Marathon is mentioned as one of the best ways.
Urban Legends
  • Case students create 20 percent of the Instant Messaging traffic in the nation.
  • Playboy ranked Case the ugliest campus in the nation.
  • The Elephant Walk stairs were specifically designed to aid a five-foot-five woman in running away from a six-foot man.
  • There is one “6’4” 180 lb man” committing all the thefts and burglaries on campus.
  • You can get from North side to South side without ever going above ground.
