Easy to Get and Great

The undergraduate teaching assistants are well-paid and it is pretty easy to get paid to do research in the semester or the summer. There isn't really a compendium of opportunities, but ask your professors and they will point you toward some great experiences.

Great Area

There are a ton of museums, theaters, and restaurants in walking distance and the Cleveland public transit can take you to anything too far to walk.

Challenging but Possible

I chose Case Western Reserve University because of its strong reputation in science and engineering, its cognitive science program, and its availability of research for undergraduate students. The workload is very challenging, it's a lot of work, but it's do-able. Most teachers, supplemental instructors, and student tutors are available to help with any unclear material.

Pre-Med at Case

Being a pre-medical student at Case is an amazing opportunity because there are so many other individuals who also intend to go to medical school. The atmosphere is conducive to this type of learning. The opportunities are abundant, from volunteering at UH to getting involved in some sort of pre-medical organization, to doing medical research with faculty on the Case campus.

Overall a Great School

I've enjoyed my time at Case so far because there are so many things to do and ways to get around. I like that it is a small campus but not to small because I still meet someone new everyday.

Loved My Years

I loved CWRU when I was there, and I wish I could go back in a second. It is a lot of work and professors will push you, but it does prepare you. There is a lot to do, a million clubs and the people I met there are some of the best in the world. Everyone is driven and very intelligent- your friends will go off to do crazy and awesome things. Work hard, play hard.

Campus Aesthetics

Case has a very pretty and unique campus. There are a lot of modern art installations on campus, and a few of the buildings are modernistic, too. When the weather is nice, there are often weddings on campus.

Financial Aid = Simplicity

It's so easy to fill out the forms, and Case is pretty willing to dole out the cash if you deserve it. Also the financial aid office is so nice here, extremely convenient and helpful :)

Free Spirits Who Are Very Smart

Students at CWRU march to their own drummers. I love how they are cool, hip and maybe a little nerdy and very, very smart.

Get Involved! It's Amazing!

I could not be happier with my decision to come here! These are the friendliest, smartest, and most interesting people I have ever met. The campus is the perfect size that you can know a large amount of the campus, but still meet new people every day. It's not an overwhelming size and the graduates are so nice: even to freshman! It's a tough school, but I recommended joining a club or 2 to keep you sane in between studying. But there are so many helping resources to help you adjust and the people will just make your day!

It's Amazing What You Can Find by Stepping Out of Bounds

Even though Cleveland isn't the most temperature-friendly city, people who claim Case/Cleveland to be "boring" are sadly mistaken. Even if there is nothing to do on campus (which I haven't experienced yet), you get these unlimited RTA pass that allows you to use the rapid train station and any of the busing in the city! Rock n roll hall of fame and Severance hall for the music junkies. Coventry Rd. for the hipsters and amazing cheap food. Tower city for the shop-a-holics. Quick n Loans for the sports fans (and concert fans!). Several clubs in downtown and the West Side Market is the best place and highly recommended if you like cultural food at cheap prices! It's all within a 20 min. bus ride. So sit back, enjoy the ride, and return back on campus happy!

You have to try very hard to get into trouble. Sometimes you'll have a high strung roommate or RA but in general as long as you are not destroying something you will be fine.

Awesome

Case offers a great academic opportunities. I'm a person who loves to ask questions for my professors and they can answer anything, also the Co-op, internship, and research opportunities are fabulous. And then what makes Case one of the best places in the world for me are the people. Everyone at Case is willing to help you out with whatever you need. There is always someone willing to help.

Mediocre

The campus food is really not that good. It is good for the first week of classes and then it takes a turn for the worse and just stays at mediocre. The really only good days are when there are open houses coming through. For some reason the food provider, Bon Apetit, wants to have fresh food from local farms. This in theory sounds like a good idea, however they obviously don't understand that Case is in Cleveland and that fruit in December should not be from local farms...

Good, During the Day

Case is surrounded by ghetto on 2 sides, so the crime can tend to leak into campus. There's a mugging at night probably once every other week. Campus police are usually good about responding, but it can be hard for them to catch a suspect when the description matches 25% Cleveland's population. I know someone who had their car stolen when it was parked on the street.

The last year I was there was worse than average. There was a carjacking during the summer and 2 bank robberies (at the same bank).

There are plenty of options for getting around at night if you don't feel safe walking though.

Best Program

I'm a civil engineering major and I love it at Case. It is a small program, some of my classes have only 6 kids in it and some have 20. All professors in this department know me by name and are always willing to help me with anything whether it is academic or not. Its nice to become close to the professors and students in this department. The students are really friendly and we help each other get through the hard workload. I'm confident that when I graduate, I will find a job and be well prepared for it!

Diverse and Interesting

There are people of almost every ethnicity and religious background at Case, which I found very nice. There is definitely a fair amount of really attractive guys, but it's also extremely nice that many of the guys on campus aren't just frat brothers obsessed with partying and booze. There are a lot of intelligent and attractive guys. But I agree that there definitely are those really nerdy types, but the sheer amount of guys here make up for it. The girls are overall also attractive, and according to many of my male friends, there are a lot of "hot Asian chicks."

Excellent

The professors that I've had so far were excellent and helped me and provided opportunities for me to learn and improve. I personally have had no major problems when registering for my classes. The workload at Case is what you make of it. Obviously, engineers have more work than many humanities majors and things like that. Overall, Case seems a bit harder than other schools of similar caliber though.

Academics Summarized

Academics at Case seems to either be only slightly more difficult than high school was for some students or blows people right off their asses with the work load and difficulty. People don't really do "okay." In my experineces and what i know of my friends grades, you either succeed (much like you did in high school), or you fear every semester will be your last due to a subpar academic performance. (really though, the professors are willing to help, and they curve, so not many people really get kicked out.) Case is hard, I've never heard anyone deny that, but if you're considering grad school of any kind, Case will prepare you for it. I've talked to many Case Alumni who went on to med school and said that Case had prepared them so well, and they actually found undergrad harder than med school...

Just stick in there
