Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The simple truth is that there are drugs on campus, but not that many. Rather than saying there is a drug scene at CUA, it is more accurate to say that there are drug addicts and dealers who bring the drugs. Individuals, not the collective whole or even a reasonable majority, abuse or take drugs at Catholic. Maybe it is the Catholic identity or abundance of entertainment available or overabundance of alcohol, but the average CUA student is just not interested in taking drugs.

This is not to say that drugs will fade away or die eventually because there will always be a few students every year who take/deal drugs, and everyone will always know who to contact should they ever get curious. But even then, the most prevalent drug is marijuana. So parents and non-drug users rejoice: the Catholic University of America has been tested for drugs and passed with flying colors.

Responsibility the Rule

Drugs are not a big deal and we are basically self regulating. We can get our friends help quickly with campus programs. We are Faith-based and have programs to help deal with things, and the people around us are great. There is average social drinking, but not excess. There's little peer pressure - you're here with like-minded friends. Admin holds us to a high standard that we try to keep up.

Present in One Form or Another

There are always going to be those that choose to challenge the system; their families; friends; and themselves. Our school does NOT want drug use on the campus and as I have witnessed, has kept the decisions to ask those that don't want to follow the rules, to leave....discreatly. Peer pressure is what one needs to decide for themselves - with ANY good/bad situation presented. It is what we choose to do with it that can make or break these opportunities of a good education.
