Fun Local Trivia
  1. If you did not already know, most of the city's historical attractions like monuments, museums, and landmarks are free!
  2. During Halloween, you can collect candy from various countries if you trick-or-treat down Embassy Row, where foreign nations have their embassy headquarters. Go early though—most stop answering their doors at 5:00 p.m.
  3. Music lovers, welcome to DC! Washington has a myriad of music venues for aficionados of almost every kind of genre. For top-tier rock, punk, hip-hop, and country shows, the 9:30 Club will impress, while lovers of indie rock and low-key bands will flock to the Black Cat. And for those who love mainstream, the Verizon Center is the place to be. And still, there is so much more music.
  4. For a different movie experience, students can go to free screenings of different movies at the National Gallery of Art. They may not be blockbusters, but they are artsy and classic—and free.
  5. Politics aficionados will be happy to know that at any given time and place, prominent politicians are walking all around the city. Just hang around Capitol Hill.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The Brookland neighborhood, where the University is located, barely makes the grade. There has been a history of crime in the area, with the unfortunate, yet perpetual feeling that things are never 100 percent safe. This notion is supported by the fact that on every street corner there is a patrol car monitoring the area. Aesthetically, Brookland is nothing special. It can look a little desolate at times, with not much to do but walk. There is a CVS, 7-Eleven, and a slew of take-out restaurants and mediocre bars, but that’s about it.

But the bigger picture is a whole other animal. Washington, DC is an incredible city for a college student. The Metro makes mobility so easy and affordable that there is no excuse for anyone to stay in at any given point of the day (well, maybe to do homework). The monuments, museums, and historical elements galore make the city so interesting and engaging. In addition, it truly is a beautiful city, whether you stroll down the National Mall with the Washington Monument or U.S. Capitol as eye candy or shop in Georgetown or Dupont Circle, with colorful brick architecture and New England-esqe atmosphere. DC is both commercially and aesthetically pleasing.

Center of the World

Catholic U is in Washington D.C., the center of government and law, a great center of arts and humanities, and a social hub for the world community here. The campus is minutes from museums, government buildings, food and dining and recreation with our own Metro stop on campus. Beautiful campus, ideal location and connection to the vital life of the city. The small student body is tightly knit and professors personal and great! Sport programs are strong and supported and campus life is the best.

Ehh

The city of brookland is not the most appealing. When leaving campus you dont really want to be alone and thats due to the fact that the area surrounding school can be potentially dangerous in all honesty this part of DC is pretty s****y.

Brookland

Brookland is not the nicest area to be walking around in in DC. Of course DC has so much to offer, but in the immediate area around Catholic, I wouldn't want to be walking around alone. There are frequent updates about armed robberies, and the like. That being said, despite often walking around that area at night on the weekends (to get to different parties) I've never run into anything I'd be worried about, not have I had good reason to feel unsafe.
