Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Simply stated: there is always a party at Catholic University of America. Whether students are trying to throw a sneaky party in a dorm room or are making their way by the dozens to the many bars and clubs DC has to offer, the bottom line is that you can tell the weekend has arrived when CUA kids are stumbling around. And the weekend really starts on Thursday here. The funny thing is that the widely-held perception about Catholic University is that everyone is a prude. And while there is a large group of students who prefer not to drink under any circumstances, those who do drink really make their presence known.

It is hard to find a bar or club without a Catholic University student downing a shot of something or tearing up the dance floor. And thanks to the vast nightlife in DC, the possibilities for nighttime entertainment are limitless, whether students are 21 or not. So if you are looking for a party, look toward CUA. After all, the school is predominantly students with Irish Catholic backgrounds.

Alright

The Catholic nightlife is very monotonous. Everyone who goes out on campus is at one party/bar. It isn't rare that I see the same handful of people (seniors-freshmen) every weekend. There are some sort of fun options for bars (McNasty's, Brothers, etc.) but overall nothing extraordinary. 18-an-older can get into these bars, and they very on the strictness with fake ID's and underage drinking. Of course there are cool bars in the city, but they have expensive covers aren't really convenient to CUA. There are also off-campus parties at the various sports houses. They DO charge girls. Also, avoid the baseball house as they often charge too much for parties, and kick everyone out once they've made a sizable profit.

House Parties Are Better

Since the bars around the school are for 18 and older, they tend to attract sloppy drunks that I just don't want to be around. So I always rather to go to house parties because i know my friends will be there all together plus they are in walking distance.

Black Night

Everyone goes out at night on the weekends starting on Thursday. A very popular club place for college students is a club called Brothers. There are also a lot of house partys and alcohol availabe anywhere.

Hawk 'n' Dove

Hawk ‘n’ Dove is dubbed as DC’s political watering hole, where Capitol Hill employees blow off some steam and drink. But CUA students are just as famous as politicos, which makes “Hawk” their Thursday night party spot. Hawk ‘n’ Dove doubles as a club of sorts, with a small dance floor and mainstream pop and hip-hop music.
