Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town
  • Metro
  • Taxis
  • Metro buses

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It’s Washington, D.C., so transportation is not a problem. The Metro is awesome—it's a simpler, cleaner New York City subway. It allows students to explore the city frontways, sideways, and every which way they desire because there are so many Metro stops spread throughout the city. Students can survive without the pangs of having a car, looking for gas, and finding parking within the city. The only problem is that it is not open 24 hours like other big cities with underground transportation, but other than that, it is ideal for college students who can take the Metro to work, shops, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and much more.

For long-range travel, there are three nearby airports, so students have the luxury of picking between many airlines. There are plenty of bus and train services for students who prefer the scenic route. For basic transportation, taxicabs are moderately priced when students are out and about late at night. But overall, the best part about D.C. transportation is the Metro.

METRO!

CUA has its own metro stop! It gets you to any place you need to go. It's fairly cheap and very easy! Students planning on attending school at CUA can definitely survive without a car.

Metro Stop on Campus

The Metro will be your best friend during your time at CUA. It is one of the two DC schools blessed to have a stop right on campus. Fares are reasonably low if you're heading into the center city, and almost all major attractions are accessible via the system (huge exception: Georgetown). You'll have to put up with bumps, delays, and poor customer service, but it'll get you from point A to point B.

There's also a new Capital Bikeshare stand near campus. You can rent a bike by the hour and return it at any Bikeshare location in the city. DC is a very cyclist-friendly town; the new Metropolitan Branch Trail, which will extent from Silver Spring to the Capitol when it's completed, goes right past campus.

Very Convenient

The metro is located right next to campus, so it's easy to jump on and go anywhere in the city. The metro goes directly to the train station and airports, so it's not hard to get on a bus, train or plane. On campus transportation could be a lot better, but there's not much need for it anyway, because everything is within walking distance.
