Since Cecil College is somewhat still called a community college there is a diverse student body such as working parents, graduates from local high schools, people returning to college where everyone comes from a different background. This diversity can be a good thing when working with different people in class and listening to one another sometimes you can learn different perspectives on how to study or from what other people share from their work experience. If you were to attend a different college where it is mostly high school graduates with little to none work experience, you would miss out this extra learning.

Right now I have been accepted into the nursing program, which is really competitive program there. Every time I would meet with the nursing adviser and ask questions about what to do that would increase my chances of being accepted into the program she would always have helpful answers. They are also really good about sharing information about their career center. Cecil College also has many job/career oriented workshops for people who are not sure what to major in, and workshops on finance, resumes, and college advice.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
The financial aid office is very friendly and helpful. All of my paper work and FAFSA was processed fast and I received enough to cover my classes and books, as well as still having left over money. Tuition isn't that bad, I get in county so it's extremely affordable.

We're a very good school, despite being a community college. You learn basics but go beyond that knowledge pretty quickly. Cecil also encourages a "get in, get out" mentality. They want you to transfer as soon as you're ready. And because of how good your learning is there, you are several steps ahead of your program and students at your new school.

I'm always challenged. That's the best praise I can give.

As far as my experience goes, the college has the best equipment available for all departments. We may not have "a lot", but what we do have is the best.
Where we're beginning to suffer is with instructors and staff. I've seen many good teachers come and go, and now we're losing people to budget cuts. The faculty is our most important resource and it's becoming a problem.

It's a small campus, but what we have is nice. The Gym is newly reconstructed and looks terrific. The Milburn Stone Theatre has always been a wonderful theatre and the productions are great. The Nursing department is also newly renovated. We've just broken ground on the new Math & Engineering building as well. We're growing

The workload is a lot bigger since you don't have class to attend, the teachers give you other busy work and projects to complete. They force you to interact with other students by grading online discussions that you have to comment about. It's a lot of extra work per week and a lot of independent work.

There are a number of activities that you can engage in to be social here at Cecil. They try hard to provide a environment that encourages and allows for social interactions.

I have rarely if ever had a problem with the internet service here on campus. I don't have internet at home so I have to stay at college to do my homework. There is always computers for me to us and the hours are great. There are a number of computer labs on campus and a lot of copiers and printers. The printers sometimes have problems but usually the problem is fixed fairly quickly.

There are a number of resources here on campus. Every lab has great staff always willingly to help you with anything. The gym is a great place to go to better classes, complete with showers. The longues are comfortable and welcoming.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I am grateful for the education I am receiving but I am currently looking into transferring to a college that has a better basketball program and I can live on campus and use my funds for living expenses, cafeteria cards and living expenses as well as my tuition.

Cecil has many computers available. The network is average but it is doable to get my studies completed.

My school tries to give resources for students that do not drive. I live with a host family off campus and they are very helpful giving me a ride to and from school.

Cecil College has many resources for students to reach out for assistance. They have after hour tutors and individual assistance if you let them know you need help in a certain class. Their gym is accessible to students and the workout equipment is top quality.

Cecil College is a commuter school so there isn't much student life at all. If you're looking for a lot of involvement, Cecil is not for you. There is a new gym and a theater there, however, there is only one place to eat on campus and the selection is horrible. The library is small and does not offer periodicals, but the librarians there are very helpful. There are three computer labs, but the printers are constantly going down which is frustrating. The aesthetics of the campus are pretty awful with the exception of the nature trail they put in. Honestly, the main focus there is on their academics.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
For the price of in-state tuition, the education I'm receiving far outweighs the cost. I am currently receiving financial aid and it covers everything, including books. I have had no problems with the financial aid office; however, nothing is processed until after the last drop/add date which is somewhat inconvenient. They give you what they call a "book voucher" for purchasing your books, but it's only good in the school store, so you can't look for cheaper books elsewhere without paying out of pocket.

The computer labs are extremely up to date, and I use them almost everyday for class projects.

My major requires a lot of computer lab time, and the hours are very odd but the facility is great.

The school is very good at accommodate all students with anything they have issues with.

I do not take online courses, but from what I hear they are harder than a normal class, but not impossible if you are a good student.
Recent Alumnus 2013-02-18T20:20:21Z
The flexiblility of the classes is very good. They are not like a normal college. If you have to turn something in late, most teachers will accept it with points off. That is unlike the policies of most colleges.
College Senior 2013-02-18T04:46:12Z
Online courses are a much more convenient way for a college student to attend school while working lots of hours. I was nervous because I was teaching myself the material but I do better on my own. However, the teacher was not much help when it came to answering questions. So, depending on the teacher, you can have a successful, or unsuccessful time with an online class.

Everything, technology wise, is very well put together. Other than the fact that you have to pay to print something in the library (which is absolutely ridiculous), all of the other resources are up to date- and speed.

I'm going to school for occupational therapy, and right now, am taking necessary courses for me to get there at a local community college. I had to go in as a different major since the program wasn't offered, but am still taking everything I need intended to lead me in that direction. I feel as if anything in the health field will leave you with a heavy workload, but coming out with the career I want is well worth it.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
