Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students at Centenary bring their own computers. Although it’s not entirely necessary, it is much more convenient to have your own computer. Teachers often use Blackboard or send assignments through e-mail, so being connected is a must. Students at Centenary can be obsessive about checking their e-mail. It can become a nervous tick if you’re not careful. It’s generally easy to find an empty computer lab on campus. Most students head to the library to use a computer, but there are plenty of other labs around campus that are empty when classes aren’t in them. Learning the class schedule for these labs makes it easier to find an empty computer. If you need a computer at night, the dorm labs are open all the time. Also, if you need to get into a certain lab, such as the Mac lab in the Turner Arts Building, you can call the campus police, and they’re often willing to unlock the door for you.

Centenary recently received new computers for almost all the labs, but printing can still be a bit of a headache. Though it’s free, the printers in the library are always in use. The other printers around campus are often broken, and the dorm labs don’t have printers. Bringing your own printer is really helpful, especially if you need to print something late at night. Though Centenary isn’t the most technically up-to-date campus, the network is pretty fast and students rely on it immensely. Though the network doesn’t go down often, when it does, students act like they’ve lost a limb.

Technology on Campus

Computers are very accessible in the library. Priting things off the computer is a whole different story! The librarían is not very nice. It used to be that we could print things off ourselves but now the librarían got so mad from having to unjam the printer(her job) that one day she decided to move it behind her desk. Now she looks at and even gives her own 2 CENTS about what you are printing out. HELLO we are paying for this!! Wireless across campus is spotty. Wifi is hit and miss in the smith building and other outer buildings. It is a MUST though to have your own pc or mac. The library closes at 10 and is not even open on Saturdays.

I enjoy having my own computer. that way I can get my homework done and then go the to the lab and print what I need. There are plenty of space at the labs and printing on campus.
