College Prowler Take

All the buildings on campus look exactly the same. The design is the typical red-brick-and-column look that so many colleges love. The College is planning to build another dorm, though the exact location and date of construction is a mystery to students. Most of the buildings are in decent condition, though the arts building is in desperate need of more space. Because the College only spans a city block, the facilities are limited to a small space. There are a few campus-owned buildings across the street. The Gold Dome, where all the basketball games and graduation ceremonies are held, is located directly across the street, as are the Department of Public Service (DPS) and the arts building. While the small size of the campus is good for community and academics, the facilities suffer under the cramped conditions. There are only two places to eat on campus and one recreational area. Don’t come to Centenary expecting to stop for a McGriddle on the way to class. What makes up for the small space is the fact that the campus is gorgeous. The people that keep up the grounds do an amazing job of keeping the campus clean and beautiful. There is a rose garden, with special, enhanced Centenary roses. Don’t pick them! You’ll get slapped with a $100 fine. Also, there is an arboretum with several trails. The admissions department tends to fill their booklets with blooming flowers, giving the impression that Centenary is a pink, tropical oasis. Unfortunately, the flowers only bloom for about two weeks in the spring. You’ll definitely enjoy those two weeks, though.

The Student Union Building (or SUB) is a hub of student activity. The gym is great, and the computer labs on campus are all up-to-date with capable machines and fast connections.

The gym is amazing, considering that we are a small, privately-funded college.

The facilities are somewhat old, for the most part, but kept in good repair. The computer labs in the dorms are not always in the best shape, but that is to be expected with the abuse they endure from drunk students.

Favorite Things To Do

Late-night games of ultimate Frisbee often draw large crowds of students. Plays at Marjorie Lyons Playhouse usually have large audiences, and students receive tickets free of charge. The most popular events are probably the comedians and bands that student organizations host several times a semester.

You can watch a play and catch a film in the evenings. You can also play pool, Ping-Pong, and (old, but free) video games in the student union. A lot of students work out in the Fitness Center in between classes. The night games of ultimate Frisbee and intramural sports also fill up really fast.
