Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Community is a big aspect of life at Centenary, so living on campus is a must if you want to be heavily involved in student life. All students are required to live on campus until they reach their senior year or turn 21. There are some exceptions. If your parents live in Shreveport, you can petition the administration to live off campus. Otherwise, first-year students and sophomores only live off campus if they have special circumstances. Many students will tell you that living on campus is much easier and cheaper. You don’t have to pay bills, and you save money on gas. Other students complain about the fact that you can’t have pets and the only communal kitchen is in James Hall. Students that do live off campus are generally spread out all over Shreveport. The school has no College-owned apartments, and it’s up to students to find a place to rent. Many students rent old homes in the nearby neighborhood. Both the houses and apartments are pretty reasonably priced. Commutes to school are not too bad once you learn the roads.

It’s not incredibly difficult to find a place off campus, but the College isn’t very helpful to students looking to rent. Also, organizational meetings and other events are often scheduled at night, making such activities inconvenient to students living off campus. Students that live off campus often miss the community atmosphere of the College, but once you reach your senior year, you may have had enough of the Centenary College community bubble.

Safety and Cost

Depending on your neighborhood, off campus housing is fairly safe. It is also very affordable. I am from the west coast and the costs here are much cheaper.
