Parking Permits

All students must register their vehicles online. All students that register their vehicles will receive a parking permit. The permits allow students to park in a single designated lot; parking anywhere else will result in a ticket. Permits for more desirable lots are issued to juniors and seniors first.

College Prowler Take

Many students at Centenary have their own car. It’s not absolutely essential, but it makes getting around a whole lot easier. Because the campus is so small, it’s hard to find everything you need without making a few trips a month to Wal-Mart or Target. While other students will offer rides, working around their schedule can become tiresome. So, if you can, bring a car. In the long run, it’s easier and not too much trouble in terms of parking. Any student can have a car, and the school offers parking permits for $25 dollars a year. The permit does not guarantee you a spot, but gives you permission to park in a certain lot, usually one nearest to your dorm. Most students don’t have any problems finding spots, though the lots in front of James and directly next to Cline tend to fill up fast. Upperclassmen are given permits first when it comes to these lots. If you do get a permit, make sure to park in your lot.

Students that live off campus may have a harder time finding a place to park. The lot in front of the library is open to anyone, but fills up fast during the school year. It’s a good idea to get on campus early if you commute. Parking in the rest of Shreveport is generally really easy. All the department and grocery stores have huge parking lots. Downtown is a bit more troublesome, but if you don’t mind walking a few blocks, it’s not that bad. Because Centenary and Shreveport in general are so small, parking is rarely an issue. Big city parking and traffic issues don’t dominate your life in Shreveport.

None of the parking lots are exactly easily accessible to the buildings, and those that are closest are the quickest to fill up. It can be a bit scary late at night when you have to walk all the way across campus to your dorm because you were unable to find a spot.

Parking sucks. There isn’t enough, and they are poorly placed. The good ones are too small and too few. I try not to drive too much because of it.

Parking can be kind of a pain, especially in the good lots. Once you progress some (accumulate some hours, get a good GPA), this problem becomes minimal.

Just because you have a parking pass doesn’t mean you have a spot. But in general, you’ll never have to park more than a five-minute walk from any building you’re trying to get to.

The Boot
If you receive four or more parking citations in a single semester and don’t pay the fines, DPS will fasten a yellow lock on your wheel. It costs $25 to have the lock removed. You will also have to face intense mockery from your friends when they see your booted car, which can be just as bad as forking over the cash.
