There's Not Much Crime Ever.

There's hardly ever any crime around here, just maybe like a burglary and some suspicious characters roaming about the school but nothing to get deathly scared over. DPS sends email's about crime updates and everything, and they'll text everyone in the school to let everyone know what's happening.

Centenary Rocks

The facilities on campus are very nice. Our gymnasium is impeccable, hard to believe it is a college gym. We also have an indoor pool connected to our gymnasium which is awesome. The science building has been remodeled an looks great! Our Student Union Building (SUB) is an awesome place to relax or have a study group. Not to mention that the campus itself is beyond gorgeous.

Grade a Sports

At Centenary College of Louisiana, varsity sports are a very big part of campus. Most of the students attending here are part of some athletic team. There are so many different sports available and intramural sports! We have great trainers and advisers at our fingertips whenever we need them. All of the students here are so supportive of all of the sports on campus. There is never an event here that is not completely packed.

Greek life is a great part of the Centenary experience. Many students are involved in Greek life, but if Greek life is not your scene, that's okay! Greek life does not exclude non-Greek members when they have social events, but being a part of Greek life is a blast!

I've never been aware of much drug use on campus. There are a couple scattered marijuana users, but that's it. Drinking is the big thing for most people.

The drug scene isn't really big. A lot of students pop "study drugs" but look down on everything else. Drinking is more popular but still isn't big.

Almost half of Centenary is involved in Greek life. Fraternity houses have parties every once in awhile, sometimes every weekend. Everyone is welcome down at the houses, it doesn't matter who you are.

It's not really noticeable, but it depends on who you hang out with. You hear of some people smoking pot, but not anything much more than that. Drinking is visible on the weekends at the fraternity houses, but not everybody at fraternity houses drinks.

In general, varsity sports at Centenary suck. They have losing seasons most years. Also, games are not well attended by students. There are lots of intramural opportunities that are participated in.

Centenary is the smallest school in Division I athletics. However, we do not have a football team. We do have a pretty good basketball team. We also have tennis, softball, baseball, and volleyball to name a few other varsity sports on campus. Intramural sports are very fun, and anyone can compete as long as they are not on the varsity team for that sport. We have intramural soccer, flag football, basketball, softball, and more! They are really fun, and I highly recommend playing.

Drugs are not noticeable at all. People usually only smoke cigarettes. Although, like at most schools, it depends on who you are friends with.

Overall Experience at Centenary College of Louisiana

At first I really disliked...

At first I really disliked Centenary, but now that I’m involved with organizations on campus and have had time to find friends like me, I adore it. I’m glad I made the decision to come here. The great thing is that if there’s anything you don’t like about Centenary, and you’re willing to put in the effort, there’s a good chance that you can change it. If you’re interested in going to a small school where your voice counts and you can get a great education, Centenary is a great choice!

Greek life definitely dominates...

Greek life definitely dominates part of the social scene, though it can be avoided if one so desires. Greek life is huge on campus, which almost stopped me from attending Centenary. But you don’t have to be part of the Greek system to hang out with Greeks or to appreciate the social opportunities they provide. There are two sororities and five fraternities. They are far from typical; the Greeks, in most cases, are truly leaders on campus, rather than stereotypical ‘drunken frat boys’ or ‘sluts.’

Greek life is the social scene. Pretty much nothing goes on that the fraternities or sororities aren’t involved in. The same people in the fraternities are the ones that are active in other campus groups.

Greek life is pretty big at Centenary, but you don’t have to be in it. You can go to their parties without being in the fraternity/sorority. Plus, there are other parties all over town.

Centenary is not very diverse at all. I think we all wish there were more minorities on our campus, because you’ll rarely meet anyone who isn’t white. It really sucks.

It’s not convenient since you have to be 21 or a senior to live off campus, with the exclusion of those who live at home or in fraternity houses. I don’t see the benefit of living off campus. I would feel excluded from the going-ons of the campus. However, that may just be me.

At Centenary, you don’t get much of a housing choice. You must live on campus for three years unless you live at home or have medical problems. However, most people love it and stay on campus for all four years. Since everybody lives within a square mile, it really makes your relationships with other students better, and most students love it!

Joe’s, Maurice’s, Chicago, and Voodoo are okay bars. If you want to go to Central, it can be okay as well, though honestly, there are more big, black women there than hot guys. Shreveport sucks in the bar/club department.

Cool Things to Do!

I think what sets Centenary apart from other schools is just the fact that it's a private school. There's cool activities that other schools probably wouldn't get to do. I definitely enjoy going to CAB events, those are always fun and other activities that people put on, the things that people do here are totally awesome.

Oh...Sodexo.

The food here would be better if the cafeteria people would learn how to cook things right. I don't want to have to eat a burger every single time I come in to the caf. The cakes are ALWAYS dry. I find that the only good options are the unhealthy foods. Sometimes the lettuce tastes like pesticides. On the weekend the food is just...terrible. Centenary needs to get their food together because I'm paying $2000 for crap.
