Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It has been said that Centre is just a place to meet other nerds, and in some ways, that’s true. Centre has a strong tradition of attracting academically-conscientious students, and it follows suit that, after making the cut, the workload can be strenuous. The challenging workload provides a full-time commitment during the week, but also allows for free time during the weekend, with some careful time management. Going to class, attending outside lecturers and convocations, and meeting with professors at the café for coffee and paper conferences are just a couple of ways to take advantage of the prominent faculty that are available for your personal benefit. Centre’s academics are remarkably strong because they combine faculty at the top of their fields, who focus on teaching instead of research, and students who are willing
to learn.

The academic reputation Centre enjoys is what usually attracts potential students. Centre C also boasts an established practice of networking—around campus, it’s known as the “Alumni Mafia.” Besides the faculty and staff, who will do backwards cartwheels to be over-involved in your academic career, Centre’s Career Services can land a you killer job. While Centre may not make any big party-school lists or have Ivy League credentials, its strength is in fostering an academic environment that produces well-balanced graduates with bright futures.

Good Academics, Great Professors!

I love my professors. They may grade a little harder than my high school teachers, but they are always willing to find a way to help. In addition to office hours, professors will answer questions via email and can normally be found around campus outside of their office hours. And the the less popular professors are still good professors.

Registering for classes is easy. Only a few of the classes that are general education requirements are difficult to get into as first years, but I don't think anyone has problems getting the classes they need.

Coming into your first semester, it doesn't seem like taking only 4 classes will be much work. However, the workload at Centre is fairly heavy, but manageable. Every student has the opportunity to study abroad, no matter what they are majoring in. And Centre is still expanding their study abroad programs. I'm excited for the one they just started which is called Centre-in-Glasgow and is very good for science/pre-med majors.

Professors Really Care.

I am an English major and I have struggled to discover what I actually want to do with this major. My advisor has been especially helpful in my situation, providing insight and advice to my situation. The workload at Centre is tough but professors are willing to help you and work with you. The college guarantees that you will get an internship sometime during the four years that you attend the college if you so desire.

Hard, but Great!

The academics here are quite strenuous (a GPA of 3.2 or so is average), so most freshman have a rude awakening when their efforts do not produce the same results as they did in high school. However, the professors are the most dedicated and brilliant group of people that I have ever met. Getting tenured at Centre is very difficult, so professors that are tenured are usually amazing teachers as well as great scholars in their fields. Further, class sizes never exceed 30 and upper-level classes usually don't exceed 15, so students get really close to their profs. In fact, many of them are my Facebook friends!
