Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The campus dining has a tendency to be a little bit of a cattle call, especially with the monotony of the food choices. The food served in Cowan is basically good, but can get boring, and there are few healthy choices for the nutritionally conscious and even fewer for vegetarians or vegans. Most students enjoy a steady diet of meat and potatoes, sometimes fried, baked, roasted, or broiled, but rarely varied. Oftentimes, it can be work to find a green vegetable in Cowan, as the main line will usually offer a starchy selection of pasta, carrots, or everyone’s favorite: potatoes. The salad line is a pretty standard salad bar, sometimes reaching out into the unknown with such exotic dishes as hummus and pita. The grill line at Cowan is always cheeseburgers, sometimes chicken patties, pizza, and french fries. The quality of the pasta line has declined in recent years, but besides the singular choice of a pasta, students can usually also get a caesar salad. A favorite is the sandwich line, offering various deli meats and cheeses; they will even grill your baguette.

The Grille and Café offer more of a selection, but it’s difficult to eat within your meal plan, and you’ll probably find yourself out of Flex Dollars and back in Cowan before long. Luckily, the employees at The Grille and Café will rarely let a student go hungry, and you can always find a friend that miraculously has Flex Dollars left. The kitchen facilities that some dorms have can also provide needed relief from campus food.

The Only Bad Thing About Centre.

While I love Centre through and through, I hated the food. It's provided by Sodexho, and their service to Centre is faulty at best. Repetitive and tasteless (unless you love salt). Further, campus dining does not heed student and faculty requests. A considerably strong movement has been underway for a few years now to get local and organic food, but little change has been made. Get the smallest meal plan possible (the one with the most flex dollars), and buy groceries instead. You'll save your appetite and your health.

The food at the cafeteria is pretty terrible, except the amazing soft-serve ice cream.
