Social Scene
Champlain is a very diverse place in terms of the social scene. Many students bond over skiing and snowboarding, but by no means do you have to know how. Other students bond over "extracurricular activities." For the most part, for having such a small school, student activity planners help promote a healthy social life on campus, where students can get involved in many interests and meet new friends. There is always something to do, and despite different interests, just about everyone gets along.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups versus relationships are like a 50/50 split at Champlain. As long as people communicate going into a potential relationship, you won't get used. It is college, after all, so people are experimenting with both relationships and hookups, just like at any other school. One common thing at Champlain is "dormsest." Since the residence halls house about 40 or fewer students, everyone who lives in close quarters with each other gets to know each other really well, and people develop feelings for others. Many date or casually hook up because of this.
Dress Code
Champlain College is in Burlington, Vt. (e.g. it's cold seven out of the nine months school is in session). Vermonters tend to wear what's comfortable, rather than what is in style. Everyone has their own style and likes to express themselves freely at Champlain. There is no true dress code, but everyone should have more than one professional/business casual/semi-formal outfit for networking events, internships, and student life dances. Otherwise, it's free game.
