Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

More students get tickets for not using a U-lock for their bikes than citations for underage drinking, even though a majority of freshmen party and drink in their dorms. However, Chapman is strict when there are noise complaints, on and off campus. In the dorms, quiet hours start at 10 p.m., but unfortunately, the majority of students continue to play loud music in their dorm or study rooms, disrupting people who are sleeping. Students can also get in trouble for being too loud before quiet hours start. The RAs will give rowdy students a warning the first couple times, then will refer them to the Student Conduct Board if the problem persists. Off campus, Public Safety and the Orange Police usually break up house parties around 11 p.m., mainly because many Orange residents are senior citizens who have a low tolerance for noise and call the police about it. So, since it is expected that parties will end before midnight, students sometimes start partying as early as 7 p.m.

Chapman is a dry campus and no alcohol is allowed, even for students 21 and older, but students can get away with it if they are quiet. If they do get caught drinking because they’re making too much noise, they will receive two citations: one for noise and one for alcohol. Overall, Chapman is a very lenient school, and students can get away with most anything if they are quiet about it. The most common citation students receive is in regards to the way their bikes are locked, so make sure to purchase a U-lock before coming to Chapman.

Sorta Strict at Chapman

Obviously the school takes their rules seriously, but students can get away with drinking and nothing too severe will happen. Academic integrity is taken very seriously though!

Not in the Dorms

You can get away with stuff as long as it is off campus. Don't do anything in the dorms because it can be risky. And watch yourself in public because campus safety will question you.

Safe but Not Overbearing

Campus security is easily accessible and they even print the public safety number on the back of your id card. So you're never far from public safety.

RAs are very chill, but if there's an issue, let them know and they'll fix it immediately.

Academically, professor strictness really depends on the professor. Generally, though, they are all very cool.
