Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Chapman students love to drink alcohol. Other drugs, like marijuana, are almost nonexistent, but alcohol establishes its presence Thursday through Saturday nights and at large campus events. Students who are 21 or older swarm to the local bars on Thursday nights and make routine trips to Las Vegas. Underage students go to fraternity parties and house parties, where there is always free alcohol. Although Chapman says it's a dry campus, the majority of students drink in their dorms. It's very easy to get away with drinking on campus, as long as students don't make too much noise. If a student does get caught drinking alcohol, he or she usually has to write an essay relating to alcohol education.

There is a fair amount of pressure placed on students to drink. There is alcohol at every party, and almost everyone is drunk when they go out, except the handful of designated drivers. Campus-wide events, like Undie Run or Homecoming, turn into an excuse to get drunk. Rather than severely punishing students after they drink, Chapman tries to educate students before they start. For a couple years, the University required the incoming freshman class to complete AlcoholEDU, an online alcohol education program. Although AlcoholEDU isn’t required now, Chapman still promotes alcohol and substance awareness on campus.

Drinking Is More Popular

Drinking at Chapman is everywhere. There isn't a lot of peer pressure, and drugs are not as readily available. While people still do drugs, it is not in the public eye.
