Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is not a problem for students who live on campus because they get an on-campus resident parking permit, allowing them to park in all the lots on campus. They are also guaranteed a parking spot in the closest lot or structure to their residence building.

Once a student moves off campus, he or she has to purchase a commuter permit, which only allows them to park in Lastinger Structure. Since the majority of upperclassmen live off campus, they are usually all fighting for the same parking spots. As a result, students who live close to campus usually walk or bike to avoid parking at all. Students are automatically charged annually for an on-campus resident permit, but if they do not have a car or live off campus, they can easily waive this fee online.

Fine If You Have a Permit

You have to have a permit to park pretty much anywhere on campus, so if you don't you're stuck with street parking which is sort of sparse.

Thank God for Friends.

I don't own a Car Personally and live on Campus with tons of friends that have cars. They are a necessity to get around to area activities while taxis are too expensive and the Public Transit is a mess best avoided. Parking at Reslife is easy to find though I do hear the occasional horror story from parking in the conference center parking lot. Try to get to the garage 15 min before class starts if you live off campus so you'll have time to get to class after you find a spot.

Parking at Chapman

Depending on when your day starts, parking can be hell. Chapman needs to adjust to the amount of students they accept because almost everyone drives here. The parking permit is an average price. There are available reserved spots for the year if you win them in an auction in the beginning of the year. Some days, they seem like the best investment. The Lastinger parking lot usually fills up by noon because that is the peak hour for everyone to have class. The law school parking structure is the alternative parking spot for the days Lastinger is full. Careful of the street parking because the city of Orange is annoying about giving out tickets for not having city permits for street parking.
