Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is no easy public transportation in Orange County. Students would have to take multiple buses to reach a destination a mere 10-minute drive away, and the only place Chapman students can walk to is the Orange Circle. The majority of students bring a car to Chapman, either by shipping it to California or taking a road trip from their hometown. Students who don't have a car cling to their friends who do. Luckily, students are very willing to offer rides to others.

Instead of buying/bringing a car, many students own a bike. They can’t bike to the mall or Disneyland, but they can easily bike to Albertsons to stock up on food and supplies. Almost all film students studying at Dodge College own a bike as well, since the film school is a couple blocks from the main campus and even farther from the dorms. Although students can survive with only a bike, a car is necessary to explore and really appreciate Southern California.

Make Friends With Cars

Almost everyone I know had at least one friend they can rely on for a Target or Trader Joe's trip. Car pooling is common and a main way to get around to malls and other places. There are zip cars but most don't go through that process when there is a friend available and willing. At first a car isn't really needed but after the first year it's just something that's needed for internships and interviews. For late night transports around campus, give Public Safety a call and they can pick you up within a certain radius from campus and take you to the dorms.

Zip Cars

The only sort of transportation has is the zip cars. Chapman is a very small school so everything is walking distance and really close.

Don't Rely on Public Transportation

If you attend Chapman, you'll probably bring a car. If you're from out of state, or can't bring your car to campus for some reason, befriend someone who has one immediately. You will probably need a bike. If you've ever been there, you tons of people whizzing past each other on their two wheeled vehicles. Dance Studios and the Dodge School For Film and Media Arts are both a reasonable distance from campus, but for people that have back to back classes, they can't afford the luxury of a 10-15 minute walk. No one uses public transportation. Generally, SoCal public transportation is ineffective.
