  • The lack of guys on campus is tough for some.
  • Parking is very limited, unless you're a senior or commuter.
  • The size of Chatham's campus can cause a "bubble" effect, making students feel like they are trapped on campus. A small campus also means lots of drama and classes aren't always offered when you need them.

Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Chatham is not a place for everyone. As a small, single-sex institution, the social scene can be too slow for some, and the same-sex campus might be too stifling for students who would enjoy having a coed campus. As one student states, "The school is great at marketing but not at holding up their end of the bargain."  The Chatham administration tends to spend more money on marketing to increase its undergraduate enrollment while letting current students simply fall through the cracks. However, the academics are challenging, the professors extremely engaged with the students, and the alumni connection in Pittsburgh is second to none. Students are required to complete an internship before graduating which gives students work experience in their chosen field.

Students note that it can be easy to get stuck in the Chatham "bubble," or feeling trapped on campus. But an outing to any of the surrounding neighborhoods for some shopping, a bite to eat, or a night out can quickly solve this problem. Joining an athletic team or a student organization can also help students feel more involved and a part of campus. Campus safety is also rated high, a facet of the Chatham experience with which students are very pleased. Students say the Public Safety officers maintain a good presence on campus. Chatham University is unlike any other school. The Shadyside campus is beautiful, and the residence halls are one-of-a-kind. Most students are pleased with the dining options on campus, the close relationships with professors, and the opportunities available to study abroad.

Chatham Nightlife

I really have no idea what the nightlife is like at Chatham University since I commute and I do not take part in the nightlife activities.

Campus Dining

I am a commuter so I do not have too much experience with dining at Chatham University. What I do know is that Chatham offers a variety of foods to pick from. Chatham also tries to take into account those that are vegetarians. At Cafe Rachel, Chatham has even started producing gluten-free snacks.

Overall Experience at Chatham University

My overall experience at Chatham University so far has been delightful. Chatham is full of positive energy and people. Everyone is so warm and welcoming and never have I met amazing in my life like I have at Chatham. Chatham has a lot of fun things to do both on and off campus. Chatham is an all girl school at the undergraduate level which is great because that gives more focus and attention to accommodating the learning style and educational needs of women. Also, Chatham is extremely geared towards women empowerment as well as leadership. Everyone at Chatham feels connected like they are family. I love it!
