Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Anderson Dining Hall, Weathervane Snack Bar, and Café Rachel offer students places to eat and meet with friends. Anderson serves three main meals during the day, while Weathervane offers grab-and-go options all day and Café Rachel serves coffee and snacks to go. Parkhurst Dining Services, the same company that runs Eat'n Park (a well-known chain restaurant in Pittsburgh), is Chatham's food supplier. In addition to offering vegan and made-to-order meals, Chatham features food from different regions of the world every month. And, after their meals, students can check out the most popular part of Anderson Dining Hall—the well-stocked dessert table. The variety of meal plans offers a combination of meals and "flex dollars" that can be used at any of the dining locations to buy meals or snack items. When selecting a meal plan, note that the more meals available, the less flex money a student will get. Students with sports or dinnertime commitments don't have to worry about missing a meal; after Anderson meal hours end, students can use their meal plans in the Weathervane Snack Bar and order a ready-made sandwich or something off the grill.

Student opinion on the food varies, but diners agree that Chatham meals can get boring as time passes. However, students can venture off campus to explore Pittsburgh's many culinary options when Chatham cuisine gets too bland. The University is very close to both Shadyside and Squirrel Hill, which offer local and commercial restaurants, as well as grocery stores for students who wish to take matters into their own hands. Parkhurst Dining Services also tries to accommodate students’ needs and is open to student suggestions, which can be written on slips in the dining hall.

Campus Dining

I am a commuter so I do not have too much experience with dining at Chatham University. What I do know is that Chatham offers a variety of foods to pick from. Chatham also tries to take into account those that are vegetarians. At Cafe Rachel, Chatham has even started producing gluten-free snacks.

Dining Services?

The food in Anderson if often burned, meals at other locations are at odd hours, and when there is something edible, it is often taken off the menu or has run out quickly.

Food Options Are Not So Great!

Anderson Dining Hall offers the same food every day: pasta, pizza, eggs, chicken, and the salad bar. It seems as if every day when I sit down for dinner I am eating the same meal as the day before. Luckily there are other options such as the Weathervane and Cafe Rachel. Weathervane is not your typical snack bar as it does not offer unhealthy food options. If you want to eat unhealthy, eat at Cafe Rachel or Anderson Dining Hall.
