Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students concerned about the darker side of Chatham's social scene can relax—the drug scene is a very small part of campus life. The two most common drug-related activities on campus are drinking and smoking. However, drug use is not that noticeable, and avoiding or participating in the drug scene is a matter of who you hang out with or knowing where to go, more than anything else.

Since drug life is not visible at Chatham, unless you actively search it out, drugs are not a factor in the daily lives of most students at all. Chatham has very strict rules regarding possessing and drinking alcohol if you're under 21, and violations of this in the residence halls are dealt with by the resident assistants and Public Safety. The resident assistants very rarely, if at all, enforce alcohol or drug possession infractions as a way of maintaining the peace. Smoking is not allowed inside any building in accordance with Pennsylvania state law, but there are designated smoking areas on campus. Overall, Chatham's drug scene is relatively nonexistent.

What Drugs?

I have not seen, nor heard anyone even mention drugs on campus. If people are doing drugs they hide it very well. People drink, but not to excess, and smokers are few and far between.

Drugs

It is mostly underage drinking that gets people in trouble. As for drugs, I haven't really heard of anything worse than people smoking weed sometimes.

Drinking and Drugs

I know that underage drinking at Chatham is strictly enforced, although I have never heard of it being an issue. Most of the students are very focused on the future and their grades, so they don't party much.

As far as drugs go, I have never heard of it being an issue either. I guess it all depends on who you hang out with, but it has never been an issue for me or my group of friends. Also, there aren't typically late night interruptions of drunken students screaming in the dorm rooms- it is a mostly quiet organized atmosphere.
