Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is no social Greek life at Chatham, and social sororities are prohibited. However, the nearby University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University have a number of fraternities and sororities, and Chatham students often frequent their social events. Although it does not have social Greek chapters, Chatham does have active academic Greek organizations. Sigma Tau Delta (international English honor society), Psi Chi (international honor society in psychology), and Pi Lambda Theta (honor society for education) hold events for members and non-members and complete community service, as well as give members an opportunity to present at various academic conferences. There are also several other Greek honor societies available based on a common interest shared by its members.

Chatham students do not generally complain about the lack of a Greek system because of the athletic and residence hall camaraderie at the University. "House Olympics," where members of different residence halls compete against one another, and "Battle of the Classes," where the four sister classes compete against each other in various events, provide a level of sisterhood at Chatham that equates to a Greek system at other institutions.

Not Much Greek Life at All

The only Greek life you'll really hear about on campus is off-campus parties from the weekend. The school does not have any sororities or fraternities.
