Chatham's Public Safety department dedicates itself to the safety of the students, and it is evident. Public Safety officers are highly visible on campus and often interact with students, who know most officers by both their first and last names. Call-boxes containing phones that connect directly to Public Safety are located throughout campus. If a student feels unsafe for any reason, Public Safety will provide an escort. One safety feature on campus is that the entrances to the residence halls can only be opened using a Chatham ID card. Students can get into their own dorms at any time, but they can only use their card to access other residence halls until midnight. If a student brings a guest to her dorm, including a Chatham student that lives in a different dorm, she is expected to sign in her guest at the front desk of her building. Overnight guests are allowed for up to three consecutive nights, except for first-year students who are not permitted to have an overnight guest until after Chatham Eggnog in December.
Public Safety also offers escorts to the UPMC Shadyside emergency room for seriously injured students. Chatham also teams up with Public Safety to offer classes on sexual harassment and rape prevention, where students learn techniques to defend themselves in case of an assault. Overall, students say they like that campus has tight security, which makes crime very rare.

Safety
I feel very safe and at ease on the campus, knowing that there are special measures taken to ensure the safety of every student, especially at an all girls school.

Campus crime is very low and easily taken care of by campus police. Chatham's campus is pretty safe, there's no drunken students stumbling around late at night or anything.
