Athletics Highly Valued

The school involvement in athletics (including students and administration) is commendable and pleasantly supportive. Most, if not all of the athletic teams, are top-tier organizations that take the utmost pride in being a CNU Captain. Our basketball and volleyball teams are most impressive and highly followed by other Division 3 competitors and sports enthusiasts. Athletic facilities are top-notch and state of the art. CNU athletics is full of pride and school spirit all around.

Weather at Christopher Newport University

Generally a Great Forcast Year Round

Since CNU is on the coast of Virginia, it tends to be much warmer than any of part of the state. Fall and spring are much warmer on average than the rest of the state, but the winter seems to be just as cold. Rarely will CNU ever see snow, but surely we get a fair amount of rain and wind gusts. Weather is occasionally subject to change rapidly from day to day, since it is the coastal plain region.

A White Campus in an African American Community

The Newport News area is primarily African American, and CNU is placed right in the middle of Newport News. There are more white students on campus than any other color, however there is quite a bit of diversity within the ethnicity of the student population. It is not difficult to make friends nor maintain them, however, because the school is extremely welcoming to diversity.
