Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sports at Claflin can go two ways for students—either they like them or they don’t. It seems that many students are only interested in sports when the teams are doing well and getting big wins—this is when the stadium seats fill up. However, the teams are usually quite mediocre, and in general, students only come out to support the teams for the thrill or when a rival is in town. But, when the season is slow, sports and sports talk tend to disappear on campus because students lack school spirit.

On the other hand, there are intramurals sports that students can take part in. Many male students play intramural basketball here. Some do it for the pure love of the sport, while others get involved for the physical workout it benefits them. Students generally come out to see the games, but it is usually the social aspect of meeting and mingling with other students and being entertained that keeps the crowd, rather than the actual game. Supposedly Claflin sports include baseball, cross country, softball, and track and field, but all anyone ever hears about is basketball and volleyball, and even these sports are mainly talked about when the teams are having good seasons. But, other than that, sports at Claflin can be quite dead.

School Spirit

Students only have school spirit during homecoming week or when a big game comes around. Claflin is not a very peppy school.

Getting Tickets

A Claflin student ID allows admittance into all athletic events. Getting tickets for any game is easy, and the price for non-students is reasonable. When the teams are at their peak, tickets sell out faster, and there are larger crowds and longer lines to wait in.
