Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most freshmen completely loathe living in the dorms, especially because it is usually their first time sharing personal living space with someone else, but students soon realize that living in campus housing is a part of the total college experience at Claflin. Furthermore, each residential hall is different, so every student’s experience will be totally unique. Some students will have to adjust to using communal bathrooms and rooms, but for the majority, the transition is easy. Running into and meeting other students in the dorms usually blossoms into friendships, which usually end up lasting throughout a student’s four years at Claflin and beyond.

The resident assistants (RAs) are also friendly—as long as you remain on their good sides. Residential Life tries to keep everyone involved in their housing communities by having weekly meetings and other fund-raising events. However, everyone here agrees that the rules are overbearing, especially the visitation policy, which states that students cannot have guests in their room and can only visit with others in the lobby during certain hours. Nevertheless, the dorms are always clean and noise-free because students would rather obey the rules than pay the fees for breaking them. Each of the dorm rooms comes with own basic amenities, and it is up to the students to bring other furnishings they may need. Overall, many students enjoy living on campus because it is convenient—the dorms are close to all the academic buildings, as well as the cafeteria, which is a nice perk.

Dorms

The dorms are always kept clean, but the bathrooms could use remodeling. The rooms are nice sizes and there is plenty of room.
