The illicit use, possession, or distribution of alcohol or illegal drugs on Claflin property or during any University activity is strictly prohibited, but there are still many ways students can access alcohol and drugs. Students who cannot buy their own alcohol often ask an upperclassman they trust to purchase it for them. When comes to finding drugs, the nearby community is infamous for it numerous drug houses where students can go for whatever they’re looking, providing they do not get caught by the cops. And anyone who goes to off-campus parties is sure to see excessive alcohol and drug use.
Students who use alcohol or drugs off campus cannot be reprimanded by the University, so very little is done to prevent the misuse of alcohol and narcotics in those situations. However, on campus is a completely different situation, which is why students will rarely attempt any drug use on campus grounds, especially out in the open. Some students manage to sneak alcohol into their dorms, but they must be skilled enough to keep it hidden during weekly room inspection to escape harsh disciplinary proceedings.
