Simply put, the nightlife at Claflin isn’t great. When classes are over and the sun goes down, there is absolutely nothing to do in terms of nightlife. Student clubs may host a movie night or a music concert, but for the most part, the campus is asleep after 12 a.m. The students are stuck on a small campus in a small town. There are no local bars or clubs in close proximity to the University. In their quest to find sources of entertainment, students usually have to leave campus to find bars or clubs in other cities, where they end up meeting the same people they left behind in Orangeburg.
Sometimes the Greek organizations throw parties, but they usually end with people getting into a fight and someone being arrested. Luckily, Claflin is located next to South Carolina State University (SCSU), which has a much larger student population and better sources for entertainment. Claflin students and SCSU students are generally on good terms, so many find themselves making new friends, attending new parties, and hopefully broadening their nightlife horizons. Yet, one thing is for sure, because nightlife at Claflin could be way better, it helps students appreciate the value of having good friends to make the boring times not so boring and the good times even better.
