I like the professors in Poli Sci, and the practical and quantitative approach.

Claremont is a small community in the midst of sprawling Los Angeles While there is not a tremendous amount of cultural activities in Claremont proper, you're within an hour of the beaches, a half-hour of the mountains, and hour for all the attractions in L.A. Most of the cultural events and recreation in the town of Claremont is associated with the colleges.

Any social science major at CGU will be extremely useful in the work world, since CGU has a very quantitative emphasis.

Pretty limited options for CGU--Hagelbarger's or the library, and both are just not that tasty

Claremont is within walking distance of the commuter train station, which can put you into downtown Los Angeles within an hour. From there you can go anywhere by light rail or bus in the greater L.A. area. Campus is flat and bicycles are a convenient way to get around campus.

Life? Most students hang out in the library. Come here if you want an education. If you want to party, skip Graduate School.

Plenty of variety, but really good places are pricey.

Health & Safety:
Pretty safe compared to the average urban campus. Police respond quickly and any incidents are publicized (with crime victim's name withheld for privacy), to keep student awareness high.

Everything is so close, you practically don't need any transportation at all.

My experience was very good. The FA office was very knowledgeable and helpful in navigating VA benefits, and I was able to get a supplemental fellowship at the last minute when company funds fell through.

Usually there are spaces in the student lots at CGU, but the middle of a weekday can be tough. Fortunately you can usually find overflow on the street.

Guys & Girls:
The guys and girls here are serious about their studies, but seem kind and ready to lend a hand. Much more independent-minded then your typical brain-dead liberals who who think corporations are corrupt but government is not.

Weather is generally like the weather in any south Californian city, average 70 degrees, mostly sunny.

Calremont has a great academic atmosphere. The program that I am enrolled in is great because of the academic status of the school, the knowledge of the professors, the conferences and speakers that come to the campus are a wonderful opportunity to network and listen to wornderful people that have made a difference in the educational system.

Gorgeous campus and quads that are perfect for the many events that the school hosts.

Hagelbergers and good and great value but it is not open late which is a bummer especially bc MBA classes are often late night.

Very quaint but not a lot to do. Great small theater and restaurants but not amazing. Better to take the train and head into LA for the day

Guys & Girls:
Everyone is very nice and very intelligent. Many of the students are married and have children. They are busy but they take their classwork seriously.

The financial aid office is really easy to work with, and I would give the staff themselves an A, but as far as availability of scholarships and funding options there aren't a lot. I received a scholarship but it only covered one third of my tuition (which is hefty) and there are little other options available. As a graduate only institution there are very few opportunities to be a teaching assistant and almost no opportunities to to teach classes (which larger institutions can offer PhD students).

I do not spend a lot of time in Claremont because I commute to school, but from the time I've spent there it is a very college friendly town. The downtown has undergone urban gentrification, for good or bad. Personally I think there are not a lot of inexpensive options for food or housing if you are on a budget.

Health & Safety:
I am only on campus in the afternoon and evenings, but have always felt safe. The campus is small and well lit, and everything is close. I still take the normal safety precautions, like never leaving anything visible in the car, walking with others if possible, and being aware of my surroundings by not walking with headphones. The only reason I would not give my school an A, is that there are safety bulletins from the neighboring campuses involving theft or assault a few times during the year.

Relatively easy both when I first came and when I returned. The University really worked with me.

One of the best graduate schools in California if not the nation.
