College Prowler Take

Claremont McKenna students are spoiled not only by having one good dining on campus, but also by the availability of five other dining halls within a five minute walk. Collins Dining Hall is in a central location on campus and is where Claremont students eat most of their meals. It’s definitely a cafeteria, but the food is pretty high-quality. There is also a ton of variety with a big salad bar, a grill, vegan/vegetarian bar, sandwich bar, and a wok station where a chef stir-fries made-to-order dishes. With custom-made smoothies and omelets, weekend brunch is delicious as well. As an added bonus, the dining hall reopens at 10:30 p.m. during the week for a late-night snack.

Students also frequently opt to eat at the Athenaeum, an impressively classy dining room that hosts nightly dinner speaking events. The food at the Ath is a big step above the rest; the dessert chef also does his part, providing succulent pies, tarts, and cakes. The main attraction to the Ath is the speakers, of course, but the chance to eat a great meal while listening to the likes of Salman Rushdie, Newt Gingrich, Janet Reno, Spike Lee, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a welcome bonus. The Claremont meal plan also gives students access to the five other dining halls in the consortium. Everyone quickly learns to catch the best of all the campus eateries, like Pitzer lunch, sushi night at Scripps, steak night at Harvey Mudd, and Little Italy day at Claremont. Dining halls are all-you-can-eat, but for mid-meal snacks there are cafés or coffee shops on all of the campuses.

Collins Dining Hall is located on...

Collins Dining Hall is located on CMC's campus, but it's not very good. Any 5C student can dine at any of the six dining halls located across the five colleges. Harvey Mudd's dining hall is by far the best. Frank Dining Hall, located on Pomona's campus, is also pretty good. The Coop is the student center located on Pomona that serves excellent food that you can pay for with your flex money.

Dining halls are very good compared to a lot of other schools, but it's easy to get sick of them because there are not a lot of other on-campus options.

Food on campus is acceptable. It's not my favorite always, but it's passable. I prefer Pomona or Scripps, but Collins brings it home sometimes.

It's pretty good for college food. It's nice that you can go to any of the five colleges for any meal, and it's all under your meal plan. Pomona and Mudd have great breakfast, and Pitzer is awesome for lunch. here are also a few places in town that are decently cheap if you get tired of the same old cafeteria food.

The dining halls are great compared to other campuses I've visited. Dining at the same one every day can get boring, but its more about convenience. Frary at Pomona is really good, as is the Pitzer dining hall. A lot of people like going to the Muddhole late at night.
