College Prowler Take

Because a vast majority of students live on campus, dorm quality is a high priority at Claremont. Residence halls are split evenly into four different areas: North, Mid and South Quads, and the Student Apartments. North Quadders live in suites with four double rooms connected around the bathroom. Mid Quad dorms are the most traditional, with singles and doubles arranged along hall ways with big central bathrooms for each floor. South Quad dorms are tall, with 12 residents in singles and doubles on each floor sharing a bathroom and a central lounge. The Student Apartments house mainly seniors in four-person apartments and are located on the far side of campus. North Quad hosts most of the on-campus parties and tends to be a loud place to live—South Quad is relatively quiet, and Mid Quad flip-flops in between. South Quad dorms, one Mid Quad dorm, and the Apartments are the only air-conditioned housing. Dorm rooms are roomy, especially doubles, and adjustable furniture allows students to make space by lofting their beds to different heights. Stark Hall, the substance-free dorm, has by far the biggest and nicest rooms, but residents are obviously subject to a substance-free living agreement. Freshmen are generally assigned doubles with freshman roommates based on a housing survey upon acceptance. Students can request preferred quads on this sheet as well. Mid Quad is a great place for freshmen to live, because the dorm setup makes it really easy to meet a lot of people quickly, and the atmosphere is rarely too loud or too quiet.

The dorms are all fine. North Quad dorms are my favorite because the door to your room opens up to the outside. But, I prefer living off campus. The campus feels suffocating no matter which dorm you are in.

The dorms at CMC have very distinct personalities. The North Quad dorms are definitely the most fun. The South Quad dorms are quiet, and the Mid Quad dorms are a little in between.

North Quad for everyone but...

North Quad for everyone but seniors is ideal. The farther south you go, the more quite and worse the dorms get. Claremont Hall is really nice. Stark is a substance-free dorm, so unless you want to avoid the party scene all together, don't live there. For seniors, there are the senior apartments, which comes with two bathrooms, four rooms, and a communal living space and kitchen. By far the best place to live is the senior apartments.
