Claremont McKenna College - Campus StrictnessCollege Prowler4.62
College Prowler Take
Claremont McKenna College is very trusting of its students, so the unspoken general rule is: don’t do anything stupid. CMC residential advisors are more like older siblings who are there to help you out; they provide stress counseling, help solve roommate issues, and when someone overdoes it at a party, they are concerned with getting help rather than figuring out whom to blame. They’re also just good friends whose doors are always open. The school administration generally doesn’t take a hard line when it comes to social issues, unless they strongly feel the event is harmful or offensive to some students. Camp Sec is truly a safety-oriented organization for CMC, not party poopers. Although they will occasionally shut down parties for noise complaints, you will often see them just standing harmlessly outside of a party, just in case something goes wrong. There are a few areas where Claremont McKenna does take the rules very seriously. Plagiarism and cheating are completely unacceptable and will result in at least academic probation; it’s not uncommon for first-time offenders to be suspended for a semester, depending on the severity of the offense. Claremont McKenna will also not tolerate any sort of hate crime—the school interprets the definition of hate crime very liberally to cover any type of writing, speech, or act that victimizes any group of people. The quickest way to get yourself in trouble at CMC is to scribble some ‘joke’ on a cultural awareness poster.

Strictness? What Strictness?
C+
Our campuses (the 5Cs) have some supposed strictness, but they all seem like a slap on the wrist...or an email sent out. Getting a drink (underage or not) is way too easy. I don't know what the policy on drug use really is. Class attendance seems to depend more on the professor than any actual administrative policy. If there is an honor code, I have no idea what it means.

CMC is very lax about drugs and drinking. Campus Security rarely writes you up, but may on an occasional basis make you pour out your drink. I've had friends smoking weed on a balcony directly above Camp Sec and nothing happened to them. Be safe and you will not have problems. CMC does have the keg fund, which reimburses the dorm throwing the party's funds spent on beer, wine, and wine coolers.

Campus security is not strict at all. I literally know no one who has gotten in trouble for drinking or smoking, even those underage.
