College Prowler Take
Technology is highly valued at Claremont McKenna, and the school tries to keep up with the pace of development. Even so, computing is easy for even the most computer-illiterate at Claremont. In 2005 the school went wireless, which allows every student to have the stereotypical experience of paper-writing out in the inspiring California sunshine. Whether plugged in or not, Internet at Claremont is as fast as it gets. Most students bring their own computers, but the school provides three computer labs on campus, two of which are open 24 hours a day. Finding a computer isn’t usually an issue, but in the weeks before senior theses are due, the labs do get cramped. The computers in the labs are easy to use and are updated frequently. The school provides all the software needed for classes.
Claremont makes using computers as simple as possible. Resident Technology Assistants (RTAs) live in each dorm and are available during all waking hours to solve everything from computer emergencies to virus protection to software issues. The labs are staffed well into the night to help anyone with computer issues there. Printing is free and unlimited, and every student gets a gigabyte on the central server to store files that they wish to access all over campus and protect from local computer failure. File sharing is common, both over the internal network and with programs like KaZaa and Limewire. Bottom line: CMCers are technologically spoiled!

Most kids here bring their own computers, but it's not necessary. Labs are crowded during finals week and other crunch periods, but it's never overwhelming.

Computer labs are frequently full, especially near the end of a semester. I would highly recommended that students bring their own computers. Laptops are easy to take around to class, but desktops are also fine.

CMC has three labs on three different parts of campus. All have free printing, which is really a lifesaver. They get pretty crowded near exam, so it is definitely essential to have your own computer. In addition, every room has an Internet connection, and there is wireless everywhere on campus.
