Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

CMC has a staff and budget dedicated to making campus look well cared for at all times. Even in California droughts, CMC has green grass and flowers growing everywhere. The campus always looks great, but the architecture leaves much to be desired. CMC buildings were built for function and not aesthetics—many lovingly describe it as “motel style.”

The dorms are comfortable and the classrooms get the job done. The strength of CMC’s facilities are not in CMC facilities only, but in the Consortium. There’s an amazing library, six dining halls, four cafés, three fitness centers, and many theaters/auditoriums. The Emett Student Center has recently been renovated, and it’s a great place to enjoy a snack and watch some TV. The gym at CMC definitely needs some work, as it looks old and the machines are outdated, but rumor has it it’ll be fixed up soon. CMC has a beautiful pool and track. The gym at Scripps is like a resort, and many students work out there.

Nice and Getting Better

With access to the whole Claremont Consortium, students at CMC have an amazing range and level of facilities. From Honnold-Mudd, the enormous library, to the gyms at both CMC and Scripps (a new fitness complex, complete with saltwater pool, which all CMC students can use), to Walker Beach at Pomona, with its sand volleyball court, we have an amazing wealth of options. The Kravis Center (to be opened by Fall 2011) will be LEED-certified and house student, faculty, and administrative services; the building is part of a plan to update and modernize much of the campus.

Gym and Internet Services Are a Joke

Honestly, why does CMC spend so much money running like eight fountains all day everyday instead of fixing the wireless or building a new fitness center? Good luck trying to get on the internet during finals week or getting into the weight room ever.

Facts

Favorite Things To Do

Afternoon Tea: Rice Krispie treats the size of your head, and if you get there in time, mammoth chocolate-covered strawberries. Snack in Collins Dining Hall at night: Drop the books, run to Collins, see some friends, get a cup full of soft-serve, grab a chicken nugget or two and some breakfast for the morning. Campus Sports: Campus golf of all varieties (normally, disc or monster golf), or a lazy Saturday afternoon game of bocce.

Grab a bite at the Hub, have dinner at the Athenaeum, play basketball on the dunk hoops, volleyball on one of the many courts around campus, play bocce, play pool in the Student Center, see a movie in Pickford Auditorium, tan by the pool, or use the rock-climbing wall in Ducey.

Did You Know?
